Melissa Fumero is an American actress who aspired to be an actress at the age of ten and attended New York University, from where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama. She is best known for playing the lead role of Amy Santiago in the comedy television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She also had a recurring role as Adriana Cramer on One Life to Live from 2004 to 2011.

Melissa Fumero was born Melissa Gallo on August 19, 1982, in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, USA, to a mother named archaeologist Carlos Gallo and a tour guide, Martha Gallo. She has a brother named Maximilian Gallo and two sisters named Julia Gallo and Johanna Gallo. Her parents are of Cuban origin, but they immigrated to the United States when their children were teenagers.
Melissa completed her high school education at Lyndhurst High School and then attended New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting in December 2003. Fumero has been taking dance classes since she was a child and is now a trained dancer.

On January 20, 2004, Melissa Fumero joined the cast of One Life to Live as Adriana on her final day as a student at NYU. The role was originally offered to Amanda Cortinas for a few months, but Melissa was later picked up and remained on and off until 2011. Then in 2009, she starred in I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Important Things with Demetri Martin and Tiny. Dancer as Ati, made her big screen debut as a lead actress. Later on New Year’s Eve, she appeared in Gossip Girl, The Mentalist, Royal Pains, CSI: NY and Men at Work. Eventually, she landed in the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, a comedy television series in 2013, in which she played the lead roles of Amy Santiago alongside Andy Samberg, who played Jake Peralta.
Fumero made his directorial debut in the same series, directing an episode of the sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Later in 2014, she guest-starred in Top Chef Duels and later appeared in Hollywood Game Night, Mac & Moxie, The Admirable, Hell’s Kitchen, The $100,000 Pyramid, One Day at a Time and the film DriverX. She also recited an audiobook The Land I Lost (Ghosts of the Shadow Market 7) in 2018. In addition, Melissa also played voice roles in Elena of Avalor, Antonia, She-Ra, and Princesses of Power and Big City Greens. In 2020, Fumero will do a voiceover for Melissa Tarleton in Marvel’s adult animated streaming series Modoc.
