Umran Malik Facts
- He is only the fourth player from J&K to be included in the IPL,
- Umran has recalled that during his childhood days, he used to play tennis-ball matches, which fetched him cash prizes of Rs 500 or Rs 1000. He had never had any formal training for cricket. After playing in school during the day, he would leave his bag at home and go back to play cricket in the evening. That happened only after joining the coaching camp of District Sports Council that his guidance began.
- He has reported that playing tennis-ball cricket proved very useful because the tennis ball’s lightness meant that he needed to put in extra effort to generate momentum.
- Umran was stunned Under-19 Selectors at your own pace during practice sessions. Seeing him bowling in the nets on cement wickets, he wanted to know who the tear-shedding fast bowler was and why he was not playing the match given his exceptional fast bowling ability. He soon joined J&K Under-19 Squad, then, was 18.
- His bowling style has been compared to that of Australian cricketer Dale Steyn, whom Umran has seen as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time.
- Malik has revealed that he never paid much attention to his fitness other than his simple workouts. He didn’t even test his bowling speed, as he always knew instinctively that he could bowl at a speed of 145 kmph. After finding out that he was bowling 150+, he thanked the almighty for blessing him with this skill.
