Bear Grylls is a British explorer, author, television host and businessman. Grylls rose to prominence after appearing in the television series Man vs. Wild (2006–2011). He also appears on several outdoor survival television shows in the UK and US, including Bear Running Wild and The Island with Bears.

He joined the ‘Territorial Army’ (Army Reserve UK) and spent three years with the Army’s ‘Special Air Service’ unit. He was a combat survival instructor who taught demolition, parachuting, unarmed combat, invasive driving and trauma medicine techniques. During this he had an accident, due to which his spinal cord was injured. To recover from his injury, he underwent medication and rehabilitation. In 1997, he became the youngest British man to climb Mount Ama Dablum. He went hiking in the Himalayan mountains of Sikkim and West Bengal before climbing Mount Everest and entering the ‘Guinness Book of Records’ on May 16, 1998.

In the year 2000, he went on a fundraising campaign for the ‘Royal National Lifeboat Institution’ (RNLI) and led a team of jet ski riders around the UK. The campaign took 30 days to complete as it was a pioneering initiative.
His first book, ‘The Kid Who Climbed Everest’ was published in 2000. The details of his journey to the summit of the mountain have been given in this book. He was 35 when he was appointed Chief Scout of ‘The Scout Association’ in 2009. As a result, he was the youngest person to hold the rank of Chief Scout.
