From the outset, there was no such thing as trying to make it as a professional soccer player. Even when he was younger, only his older brothers played football. The boys knew the risks because they didn’t want to see their father fail at football.
But it was God’s will for him to become a professional football player. Once Boule Diya’s family got lucky when they were selected to play in a 5-player game. We call it the tournament for the Onyx neighborhood.
The rest of Boule’s family agreed, but his father did not. His eldest brother Harouna says that Boulaye’s father and four brothers joined after persuading him to do so. Dia signed a professional contract with Stade de Reims on 16 July 2018, after a successful first season with Jura Sud Foot in which he scored 15 goals in 21 games. On 20 October 2018, he made his professional debut with Reims in a 1–1 draw with Angers in Ligue 1.
