When Dushmantha was first discovered in local cricket, talent scouts quickly pinpointed her as a future international cricketer due to her quick, quick-paced bowling. he started representing nondescript cricket club In 2012 where the coaches believed that within 2-3 years he could become the fastest bowler in the country.
  2. He found success in the 2013–14 domestic season, where he played a key role in the team’s championship win with 32 wickets at an impressive average of 21.18.
  3. He made his international debut for Sri Lanka in January 2015 in an ODI against New Zealand. He got his first international wicket in his very first over of that match by dismissing highly experienced middle-order batsman Ross Taylor with a quick delivery. Which was running at a speed of 146 kilometers per hour. He took the wicket of Grant Elliot, which helped Sri Lanka win the match.
  4. Soon after this performance, he received the 2015 . Was selected in the Sri Lankan team for ICC Cricket World Cup, He was not selected in the playing XI for Sri Lanka’s first 5 matches of the group stage. In the team’s group stage final match, against Scotland, as the team was resting key players before the knockout stage of the tournament, they were given a chance to show their skills. He took 3 wickets for 51 runs, which helped Sri Lanka win the match.
  5. A few months later, in June 2015, he made his Test debut against Pakistan. In the second innings of that match, in the second innings of the series, he took 3 wickets to guide Sri Lanka to a series-level victory. He suffered a side strain during the match and was ruled out of the third and final Test match of the series. Sri Lanka lost that match and as a result, the series by a 2–1 margin.
