- When Dushmantha was first discovered in local cricket, talent scouts quickly pinpointed her as a future international cricketer due to her quick, quick-paced bowling. he started representing nondescript cricket club In 2012 where the coaches believed that within 2-3 years he could become the fastest bowler in the country.

- He made his international debut for Sri Lanka in January 2015 in an ODI against New Zealand.
