Canalu Moya was born on August 15, 1997, in Kenohe, Oahu, Hawaii. He grew up with his parents in Oahu and is known to be of mixed ethnicity. He is a mix of Japanese, Chinese, Filipino and Hawaiian descent. However, he did not reveal the names of his parents or other family members. Kai is known to have partially completed his schooling in Hawaii and Washington DC, eventually graduating from Castle High School. He later attended college, participating in theater and drama together. However, he did not finish college and moved to LA to pursue acting.

Canalu started his acting career in 2015 playing the role of Manjiyal in the show Chaldiya. Later, in 2018, he landed the role of Christopher Kaliko in the Hawaii Five-0 show and a short film titled Blinkers in the same year. He played the role of Grant in the 2018 short film. Apart from this, he has also been a part of various commercials for brands like Gatorade etc.
In recent years he has been cast as a student in the 2020 series Saved by the Bell and has also got a break in the Power Rangers Dino Fury show in 2021. The role has earned him critical acclaim in a short span of time and the show is currently in its first season on Netflix. Kai has been cast in the role of Blue Dino Fury Ranger Olli Akana, and will also appear on the show in a confirmed second season. The show will also air on Nickelodeon channel on February 20.
