He received his bachelor’s degree from Indianapolis and is a graduate of North Central High School, graduating in 1979. Klein was the court clerk for Supreme Court Justice Brian White. He served as chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, where his responsibilities included overseeing the work of the legal staff on constitutional, criminal, antitrust and Supreme Court nominations. Ron also served as the legislative director for US Representative Ed Markey.
Clinton Administration
Klein joined the Clinton-Gore campaign and was involved in both Bill Clinton’s presidential campaigns. At the White House, Klein served as assistant legal counsel to the president, leading the judge-selection effort and leading the team that won judicial confirmation, Ruth Bader Ginsburg. He also became an advisor to the Chief of Staff and Attorney General Janet Reno.
He was considered highly loyal to Clinton by some longtime Gore advisers, and there was a tussle between Clinton and Gore loyalists. Gore campaign chairman Tony Coelho ousted Klein.
