Early life and career
Hobbes was born in Hobbes, New Mexico and spent his childhood throughout the southwestern United States. He completed his schooling at Westfield High School and university education at Tarleton State University in his hometown. When he was very young he got involved in a rodeo circuit as a bull rider. From there he left alone at a young age. Bringham was first gifted a guitar by his mother at the age of 16. He learned music through the gifted guitar. He initially played rodeo for his teammates and eventually moved on to other venues such as established bars around the West. This landed him in Los Angeles. The first deal Bingham signed was with Lost Highway Records in 2007.
Bingham decided to collaborate with producer T Bone Burnett, who won the 2009 Grammy Award for the 2009 soundtrack of the famous film Crazy Heart, when he received critical response from the first two studio releases on Mescalito in 2009 and on Lost Highway Records. . He also co-wrote and performed the theme song of the film which won the award, ‘The Very Kind’. The title track catapulted his popularity and led him to win an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Song” in 2010. He also won a Grammy Award in 2011 for “Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media”. Bingham was honored by the Americana Music Association and awarded “Artist of the Year”, 2010, which was considered the organization’s most respected and highly prized award.
Bingham had already released one live album and six studio albums as of 2019. Four of the 7 albums were released under their own label i.e. Xster Bingham Records. Bingham’s most recent album was released on February 15 in 2019 titled ‘American Love Song’. He has released a total of 7 albums and 7 singles till date.

Bhringam’s father committed suicide while his mother died of excessive alcohol consumption. The song ‘Never Far Behind’ from the album Tomorrowland was dedicated to his parents.
