Early life and career

Bergeron was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He previously worked as a disc jockey at the local radio station WHAV and Broadcast in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He was popularized in the early 1980s at WHEB in Portsmouth, New Hampshire by new DJs from the Seacoast area. There he gave unusual interviews and played some comedy records with music. His popularity prompted him to prepare himself for several other radio as well as TV auditions.

Being the host of the Granite State Challenge, a local game show on New Hampshire public television that was being produced on NHPTV flagship station Wayne-TV, was one of his first jobs as a television host. He moved to Boston market in February 1982, Tom joined WBZ-TV after moving to Boston market in the year 1982 as a normal on-air personality. He also served as a contributor for Evening Magazine from 1982 to 1987, one of his early roles in the station. At the time of WBZ’s daytime lineup from 1983 to 1987, they hosted a few smaller international and show preview subdivisions known as 4 Today, each within a 30-minute span.

Hosting spots on Lottery Live in 1984, nightly images of Massachusetts State Lottery games were given to Bergeron.
